Wireless Equipment for Patrons

If you have a laptop or notebook computer, and you purchased it new in the most recent years, your job is likely done for you. You probably had WiFi come with it - either a card that can be removed or even installed internally, out of harm's way. When you boot up at your local hotspot, the wireless network is auto matically detected. You can open a browser to acknowledge "terms and conditions" then you are on your way to free surfing!

If you have an older computer or one with a Linux or other non-Windsows operating system, you might have a couple of extra steps, but it's still pretty easy once the hotspot is configured and tested.

You need

  • a wireless card

  • or other wireless connection
  • a PCM/CIA slot or USB port, depending on the type of wireless device you purchase

  • some patience while you install the software and drivers to get the device to work

  • some more patience to configure your connections for use at home, a friends, and your various favorite hotspots.

I did it. You can too!
